There are lots of possible connections.
Here’s one: They are all from the earth.

Reflection

Pause for a minute. Ask yourself:

  • Look back at the recent photos on your phone and choose five different ones at random.

Your mission

This mission is about seeing the bigger picture. This is a crucial part of critical thinking – it helps us to make sense of the world by navigating all the information swirling around us and developing our own ideas.

  1. Think of all the different ways in which you access information. What do you watch and read? Take a look at your phone – what groups, people, organisations or hashtags do you follow?
  2. Now, choose an issue that is important to you. It could be anything: a problem that you experience personally, or something that affects your local community. It could even be a global issue that you’re passionate about.
  3. Ask yourself:
    • How much does the information I access influence my opinion on this issue?
    • Do I really have the full picture of this issue?
  4. Now it’s time to develop your critical thinking. Think of one specific thing you could do to get a more complete picture of your issue – and do it.
  1. Reflect on why you feel strongly about this issue.
  2. Think about the evidence you have – what do you know for sure? What are you not really sure about?
  3. Fact check to ensure you have the best information. Find something that is claimed to be a fact on your issue, and find out if it really is by researching it.
  4. Ask someone else their opinion and, importantly, really listen to what they have to say with an open mind.
  5. Try accessing a source of information that you would never normally choose – a different news site, influencer or group, or a news source from another country.

Your self-discovery

In this mission you challenged yourself to consider different opinions and find new sources of information. Seeing the bigger picture is a crucial critical thinking skill. It means you are better informed and can feel more confident in your choices and decision-making the future.

Reflection

Pause for a minute. Ask yourself:

  • Have I learned anything new about the issue or how I feel about it?
  • What can I do to keep seeing the bigger picture?

Your mission

Great collaboration happens when people combine their skills, experience and ideas. This mission is about recognising your collaboration skills and learning from your experience.

  1. Put on a piece of music or think about one of your favorite songs. Think about all the different people who contributed to it – singers, musicians, producers, sound engineers etc. Imagine if one of those contributors hadn’t been involved. What would be different?
  2. Now, think of a time when you collaborated with others. How did you contribute? What different skills did you and the others use? What would have happened if one person hadn’t been involved? What would have been different?
  3. A great way to make sense of our ideas and learn from experience is to speak our thoughts out loud. You might have heard of ‘free writing’, where you write continuously for a fixed period of time. Well, this mission is about ‘free speaking’.

Take your phone and record a voice note for at least 60 seconds starting with this sentence:

    Great collaboration happens when…

It may feel like a lot, but try not to stop speaking for at least a minute.

  4. Now, listen back to what you said. What did you say that you think is an important point?
