Freewriting

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Maya Angelou, Poet

Freewriting is about writing whatever you are thinking without getting caught up with grammar or spelling. It is just about letting what is inside of you out onto the page (or screen) and exploring it.

Check out this short video and read the instruction below.

Freewriting

Simple, huh?

Step 1: Set a timer for 10 or 20 minutes (you will be surprised how fast it goes)

Step 2: Start writing!

And don’t stop – if you don’t know what to write, then write “I don’t know what to write…”

If you get stuck you can just keep repeating something until something comes (and it will) or ask yourself questions, like, “why?”

Top tip

Sometimes it can be really difficult to let our imagination flow when we are thinking that someone else might read it. This is your personal reflection and no one will read it unless you want them to.

If you’re still wondering what to write about, you can use one of the following sentence starters but this is your time to let your imagination go!

In 10 years time…

If I could…

Wherever I go…

I believe…
